ITS TIME TO HALT MEDIA TERRORISM

Until now, Nigeria has derisively been referred to
as the theatre of the absurd because of the
misconduct of persons in both our private and
public life, but unfortunately, it seems we are not
yet ready as a people to shed that description of
shame.
Or how else can one describe the irresponsible
and inhuman occupation of concoction and
peddling of lies, falsehood and misinformation
which has become an in thing especially on the
social media?
Just yesterday, it was the turn of Dr. John
Kayode Fayemi to be quoted to have made a
statement which never emanated from him, just
like it was done in the recent past to Mr. Femi
Falana (SAN), Comrade Ayo Opadokun, Mr.
Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Prof. Itse Sagay,
Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Prof. Tam David West,
etc.
Really, am of the view that indeed, this are
perilous times which calls for eternal vigilance
from the citizenry lest they be hoodwinked and
incited to generate bad blood and ill feelings
amongst themselves by agents of darkness on the
prowl.
Thus, the time has come for the authorities to
examine our laws and invoke the relevant
sections which deals with misinformation and
incitement of public discord in order to bring to
justice these agents of evil and put a stop to their
nefarious activity which can be likened to media
terrorism.
A word is enough for the wise
