Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and Kenneth Imansuangbon are the only aspirants in the race for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the September 19 election. An aspirant, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who earlier obtained a Federal High Court order to stop Obaseki from the PDP primary, withdrew his case and stepped down yesterday. Newborn triplets in Mexico have tested positive for coronavirus in an "unprecedented" case, according to local health authorities. Medical experts are investigating whether the disease could have been passed on through the mother's placenta during pregnancy. Police have sealed off the office of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja following the order from Inspector General of Police (IGP). This comes amidst the leadership crisis rocking the ruling party. The IGP has instructed that members of the National Working Committee(NWC) should not be allowed to enter the party secretariat. A party source said the seal off was to enable the Police chief and the two NWC groups to review and discuss the various court orders being brandished. The party has been in a leadership crisis following an appeal court order upholding the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman of the party.

Three persons kidnapped by gunmen in Yambabu community in Kwali Area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on Saturday have been killed by their abductors. Police spokesman Anjuguri Manzah confirmed this in a statement on Sunday evening, adding that one of the kidnappers was killed by police.Manzah said there were efforts to arrest the other kidnappers.

The crisis rocking Rivers chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened following rejection of Igo Aguma as the acting Chairman of the party by 28 out of 38 statutory members of the party. The statutory members resolved to suspend Aguma as the acting Chairman and constituted another caretaker committee led by Sokonte Davies. Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the statutory members said Aguma was acting against the spirit and letters of the High Court judgement that made him a caretaker chairman.

Going by results declared in some of the wards in the ongoing Edo All Progressives Congress (APC) primary, former Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG) Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has jumped into early lead. In Igieduma ward/Uhunmwonde LGA, out of the 1568 accredited voters, Ize-Iyamu, who is contesting with two other aspirants scored a total 1560 votes. From Ward 9/Oredo, in Edo South out of the 200 accredited, 200 party members voted with Ize-Iyamu scoring 198, Odubu, 0 and Obazee 2. Ondo Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has denied allegations that he was responsible for the action taken by the Police against his Deputy, Hon Agboola Ajayi, on Saturday night. Appeal Court upholds suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as APC National Chairman

The Appeal Court, suiting in Abuja, Tuesday, affirmed the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The three-man panel held the trial court was right to have made the suspension order based on ex-parte application brought against him by five members of the party. Oshiomhole was suspended on March 4, 2020, following an ex-parte application filed by the deputy chairman of the party (North-East), Mustapha Salihu, and five others through their lawyer, Oluwole Afolabi, in January before Justice Danlami Senchi In a unanimous judgment, Tuesday night, in the first appeal delivered by Justice Eunice Onyemanam, the court held that the FCT High Court had territorial jurisdiction to have entertained the suit as it did and ordered Oshiomhole to stop  parading himself as the national chairman of the party, until the determination of the substantive suit. Edo: PDP women, youths oppose Obaseki

The Youth and Women wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edo chapter, on Saturday, opposed the waiver  granted Governor Godwin Obaseki by the national leadership. The waiver enables Obaseki, who just defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), contest in the PDP primary on Tuesday. Obaseki was screened on Saturday. Under the auspices of PDP Youths for Justice, a statement by the coordinator, Musa Kadiri, warned the party leadership to reward loyalty instead of looking for opportunities. He noted that the three aspirants – Ken Imasuagbon, Gideon Ikhine and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama – were capable of defeating any candidate the APC would present. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said it has approved that the party screening committee should continue the screening exercise for its aspirants for the Edo governorship election.
