Aviation loses N63b to COVID-19 June 22, 2020 Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn WhatsApp Email By Kelvin Osa-Okunbor The aviation industry lost over N63billion to the ravaging effects of coronavirus pandemic, a report by the Ministry of Aviation has shown. Describing the air transport value chain as the hardest hit to the deadly virus, the report said over 90 per cent of operations and activities were adversely affected resulting in monthly losses valued at N21 billion. The report sighted by The Nation indicated that the ravaging effects of the virus in the sector has forced government  to consider working out a recovery plan aimed at providing financial support where necessary to sustain air connectivity for passenger operations and cargo  flights.

Three Kidnapped Victims Finally die in Abuja

Three persons kidnapped by gunmen in Yambabu community in Kwali Area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on Saturday have been killed by their abductors. Police spokesman Anjuguri Manzah confirmed this in a statement on Sunday evening, adding that one of the kidnappers was killed by police.Manzah said there were efforts to arrest the other kidnappers.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on Monday emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the September 2020 election. Former Secretary to Edo State Government, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has just balloted down at his Ugboko ward 5, Orhionmwon local government area. Wearing a lemon colored dress and a transparent face mask, Ize-Iyamu washed his hands and applied hand sanitiser before he was accredited by the Electoral officer with his party card.After his name was confirmed on the APC membership register for the ward, he got a ballot paper to vote for the aspirant of his choice, which he did. Meanwhile, the Edo State Governorship Primary Election Committee has acknowledged that voting has been concluded in some wards and few Local Governments in the state with final results expected to be announced at the State collation centre. The crisis rocking Rivers chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened following rejection of Igo Aguma as the acting Chairman of the party by 28 out of 38 statutory members of the party. The statutory members resolved to suspend Aguma as the acting Chairman and constituted another caretaker committee led by Sokonte Davies. Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the statutory members said Aguma was acting against the spirit and letters of the High Court judgement that made him a caretaker chairman.

BREAKING: Ize-Iyamu in early lead in Edo APC primary

Going by results declared in some of the wards in the ongoing Edo All Progressives Congress (APC) primary, former Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG) Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has jumped into early lead. In Igieduma ward/Uhunmwonde LGA, out of the 1568 accredited voters, Ize-Iyamu, who is contesting with two other aspirants scored a total 1560 votes. From Ward 9/Oredo, in Edo South out of the 200 accredited, 200 party members voted with Ize-Iyamu scoring 198, Odubu, 0 and Obazee 2. From Ward 7/Etsako West, in Edo North out of the 808 accredited, 784 party members voted with Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu scoring 784, Odubu, 24 and Obazee 0. From Ward 3/Egor, in Edo South out of the 195 party members accredited, those who voted for him were175; Odubu got 15 and Obazee 5.

Ondo Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has denied allegations that he was responsible for the action taken by the Police against his Deputy, Hon Agboola Ajayi, on Saturday night. Ajayi was held back at the Government House as Ondo Police Commissioner, Bolaji Salami, insisted that he would not leave with his official vehicles. Akeredolu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, described the report as a complete falsehood intended to play victim by the principal actors involved. Akeredolu said it was a concorted and devious lie meant to discredit him that he directed the Police Commissioner to restrain the Deputy Governor from leaving the Government House. He explained it was a time-tested code in government’s business for officials to take inventory of offices and quarters before and after an official is moving in or out of offices or quarters.
